Michela Fagiolini, PhD

Research Associate in Neurology, Boston Children's Hospital; Associate Professor of Neurology, Harvard Medical School.

Research Focus
Circuit dissection and translational biomarkers of neurodevelopment disorders.
Brief Research Description
Dr. Fagiolini’s research focuses in understanding the mechanisms underlying experience-dependent cortical circuit development and refinement during early postnatal life in health and neurodevelopmental disorders using a multidisciplinary approach. Her laboratory has discovered a clear visual phenotype in mouse models and patients with Rett Syndrome disorder, a leading cause of intellectual disability with autistic features, and developed new therapeutic interventions specifically targeting NMDA receptor now in clinical trials. Current effort is to develop new quantitative, noninvasive, and highly translational biomarkers for the early detection of developmental disorders using machine learning across species.
