Neurophysiology Unit

The Neurophysiology Unit at BCH provides neurophysiological assessment of neonatal and pediatric populations in a robust and reliable fashion.

Location:
Until Fall 2020, we share EEG equipment and space with the Epilepsy Center at Boston Children’s Hospital on Fegan 9. Upon opening, our new facility at Two Brookline Place will have dedicated research EEG laboratory alongside neurobehavioral testing space.

    Neurophysiology Services & Fees

A one-time cost per study includes consultation on study design (for EEG/ERP portion of study), task programming, and study maintenance (e.g., timing tests); equipment costs are excluded from this fee. For study paradigms that require substantial modification from study paradigms currently available through the TNC EEG core, additional costs apply.

    Consultant $5,600 $7,280 $9,800
    Research Assistant $2,000 $2,600 $3,500

Research assistants: Two RAs are required for each EEG study. RA 1 places the EEG net and administers the study protocol. RA 2 provides behavior support to the child during this process. Includes EEG setup and cleanup time. This will be the TNC EEG RA, unless other arrangements are made with the core on an individual study basis RA 1: $75 (3 hrs @ $25/hr) RA 1: $100 (3 hrs @ $33/hr) RA 1: $150 (3 hrs @ $50/hr)
This fee is included only if a study will not be providing its own research assistant for behavioral support during the study. This RA will be in charge of bringing the participant to and from the EEG room before/after the study, and providing behavioral support during EEG collection. Any RA fulfilling this role must receive “behavioral assistant training” from the TNC EEG team prior to study initiation RA 2: $50 (2 hrs @$25/hr) RA 2: $65 (2 hrs @$32.5/hr) RA 2: $90 (2 hrs @$45/hr)

This fee includes equipment depreciation and maintenance costs. It does not include facilities costs; these costs are currently being covered by clinical use of the Fegan 9 high density EEG system. $200 $ 260 $ 350
    Clinical EEG interpretation (optional)
This fee covers the professional fee to obtain a clinical read by an epileptologist on a routine (20-40 minute) or prolonged (40-59 minute) EEG.
    $362 $ 470 $ 635

There are several options for analysis. These options depend on whether the TNC EEG core will run the analyses, or whether the primary study team will run the analyses. If the primary study team will run the analyses but requires training to do so, a training fee will apply. For analyses not currently available in the Batch EEG Automated Processing Platform (BEAPP, HAPPE), additional fees may apply.
Prices below are per task. If several tasks are to be analyzed, data analysis costs should be multiplied accordingly.
