1/2-Somatic mosaicism and autism spectrum disorder

This project develops fundamentally new approaches both to analyze cell types in brain, and to reveal their patterns of development. Defects in brain development underlie a large number of human neurological disorders, and alterations in the production of specific brain cell types lead to brain tumors. Only recently has it become possible to analyze brain development in humans at the single-cell level, and we propose to apply DNA and RNA analysis to single human brain cells, then to classify each neuronal subtype based on both its transcriptional signature and its developmental history.
